About Ooty

Ooty (Ootacamund/Udhagamandalam) is a popular hill station in South India and is located 297 km away from Bangalore. Ooty is 7,347 feet above sea level in the mountainous range of Nilgiris. Ooty was under British rule in the early 19th century, and served as the summer capital of Madras Presidency. Ooty is well connected by road and rail and can be reached easily from Bangalore.

  • Nilgiri Mountain Railway: Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site and connects Ooty with Mettupalayam. It travels through many curves and tunnels and is also fondly called the 'Toy Train'. The Uphill journey takes close to 5 hours and downhill journey takes almost 4 hours.
  • Coonoor: Coonoor is the second largest hill in Nilgiri and is situated around 19 km from Ooty. It has several popular attractions like Sims Park and Lambs rock. It can also be reached by the Nilgiri Mountain Railway.
  • Mudumulai Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary is located around 67 km from Ooty. It is an important wildlife habitat in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 321 square kilometers and shelters Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopards and other threatened species.
  • Kotagiri: Kotagiri is the largest hill station in Nilgiris and is located 30 Km away from Ooty. The important sightseeing spots are Catherine Falls and Kodanad view point.
