  • Janapada Loka: Janapada Loka is an institution dedicated to preserve and promote the Folk Art and Culture of Karnataka. This is situated in Ramanagaram, 53 km away from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway. Janapada Loka recreates the rural atmosphere and houses a wide array of rural artefacts. The institution also has tried to bring together the essence of folk literature, music, dance and lifestyle. Janapada Loka celebrates many folk cultural events throughout the year, yet the most prominent one if the Lokothsava. Lokothsava happens during February-March every year and folk artists from all over Karnataka participate in this event.
  • Wonder La: Wonder La is said to be the biggest amusement park in India and hosts an array of land-based and water-based rides. The park is located 30 km away from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway The Virtual Reality Theatre, Indoor Musical Fountain and the Laser Show are popular attractions. The park is built over 82 acres and has more than 50 rides.
  • Nrityagram: Nrityagram is a dance village located 30 km from Bangalore, founded by danseuse Protima Bedi. The dance village follows the Gurukul system of education and has students coming from all over the world to train in various dance forms. The dance village is set amongst natural surroundings and visitors can get a peek into the life of the students here.
  • Channapatna: Channapatna is located 60 km away from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore state highway. Channapatna is famous for its wooden toys and lacquer ware. There are several home manufacturing units and small factories here carrying out the manufacture of the toys. The industry is being supported by Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation. Channapatna is also famous for raw silk and coconut products.
  • Nandi Hills: Nandi Hills is situated 35 km away from Bangalore and is at an altitude of 4,851 foot. There is also Tipu's Summer Palace and fort that is spread across 90 acres on top of the hill. Another popular spot is the Tipu's drop, a 600 meter high cliff from where criminals used to be pushed down as punishment. There are several ancient temples as well around this area. The hill is also an ideal place to watch sunrise and sunset.
  • Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary: Ranganathittu bird sanctuary is located near Srirangapatna, 120 km away from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore road. The sanctuary is small, covering only an area of 1 sq km, yet the bird population density is high. There are tiny islands on the river and most birds stay on these islands. The common birds found here are Herons, Partrdiges, Painted Storks, Spoon Bills and White ibises. The river is also home for a large number of crocodiles. Boat rides are available at the sanctuary for tourists to get close to the birds and their nests. The sanctuary was established in 1940 because of the efforts of India's noted ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali.
  • Ramanagaram: Ramanagaram is located 50 km away from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway. The famous Hindi movie 'Sholay' was shot on the rocky terrains of Ramanagaram. The town is also known for rock climbing, stone and granite quarries, historic temples. A permit from Forest department is required for climbing here. Ramanagaram also has one of the biggest silk markets in India and is also called as the Silktown. Many threatened species of bird like the Yellow-throated Bulbul and Long-billed vultures are found in the forest around the hills here.
  • Skandagiri: Skandagiri is located in Chikkaballapur, 50 km away from Bangalore. This used to be the location of one of the many fortresses Tipu Sultan built to fight British. The remains of the fort are unrecognisably minimal. Remains of an abandoned temple can also be seen around. Skandagiri is popular for the night trek and sunrise.
