  • Golden Temple/Darbar Sahib/Harmandir Sahib: This important Sikh shrine has the distinction of attracting more visitors to its golden walls than the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. Located at the Lake Amrit Sarvodar, the idea was conceived by Guru Arjan Sahib. This spectacular shrine made of gold, houses other small temples in its premises. The Sacred book of the Sikhs, the Adigrantha, adorns the centre of the shrine. Numerous halls and dormitories offer free food and shelter to pilgrims irrespective of caste or creed.
  • Durgiana Temple: Built in the 16th century, this temple doesn't follow the typical architecture of its time; instead it resembles the Golden Temple in structure.
  • Jallianwala Bagh: The scene of the bloody massacre is now a sprawling 5.5 acre garden. It has a memorial dedicated to all the victims of that tragic day. Located close to the Golden temple it is easily accessible by walk.
  • Ram Bagh: This was the summer retreat of the then Raja of Punjab, Ranjith Singh. The Palace in the premises of this picturesque garden is now a national museum.
  • Wagah Border: This international border between Pakistan and India is the evening venue for the "Beating of the retreat", a customary change of guard, which has its share of pomp and tradition. The stomping of feet and lowering of flags, adds camaraderie to the otherwise sombre mood at the border. Lahore in Pakistan is located just 32 kilometres east of Amritsar, close to the border.
